Title: Understanding Learner Motivation in Self-Access Language Learning
Abstract:
We will report on our findings from an on-going small-scale research project which looks at the motivation of the students to use SALL in an EAP course with a large SALL component. Little is known about the motivation of such students but it is important because motivation will affect their commitment to using SALL. Using the framework of L2 Motivational Self System created by Dornyei (2005, 2009) and data from a questionnaire and interviews we will draw some conclusions about the kinds of motivation seen among the students. We will then discuss the relevance of the findings for promoting and supporting the use of self-access learning among these and similar students.
We are hoping for audience contributions to enhance our understanding of the role of motivation in SALL.
