Title: Learner autonomy and the role of technology

Abstract:

In this presentation we will talk about an English video project we have carried out with EST students at CityU. The course combined elements of project-based learning and new literacies to produce a strong learner autonomy focus. Drawing on data from the course blog, a questionnaire, student interviews, and in-class observations we demonstrate that the overriding aspect of this video assignment was in creating communities of learners who were autonomous in their learning and who helped each other learn the skills and language which they felt they needed to showcase their work.
